(Sits down next to SILENT GIRL) SILENT GIRL (Smiles, shakes her head, sighs a little, looks at MARK)

MARK (Smiling amidst the tears): I remember the trip. I was glad she came; I finally found the courage to tell her. (Turns to SILENT GIRL) I took her for a walk near the field of flowers. She loves flowers, especially tulips. I jokingly told her I'd have taken her to the Netherlands for our honeymoon, if it was me she married. She laughed and I kissed her. For the first and last time, our lips met. I wish the kiss never ended. I loved her. I love her still. (Puts hands in head)

Stage lights off (MARK exits Stage Right, IAN and KAREN enters Stage LEFT)

Act 2, Scene 1

Stage lights on IAN (still walking around agitated): I should have told her. I should have confessed before it was too late.

KAREN (still crying): I could have told her. But I didn't. I'm also to blame.

IAN (walks over to KAREN and hugs her tight): Do you think she already...

I wish we could've told her. I think she would have understood.
SILENT GIRL (Walks over to them both, whispers): I do. I understand. And I forgive you.

IAN and KAREN stare at the room with wonder. (Stage lights off, IAN and KAREN exits Stage Left, MARK enters Stage Right)

Act 2, Scene 2

Stage Light on MARK (holding a single red rose): Goodbye, Alex. You were the best thing in my life. You made us laugh; you were a perfect friend, kind, sweet, understanding. You were my best friend and the only girl I loved. (Turns to put the rose on the table with Alex's photo)

SILENT GIRL/ALEX (faces MARK and puts her hands on his face): I love you too, Mark. You were the highlight of my life. (Gives MARK a soft kiss). Goodbye. (Exits Stage Right)

MARK (stunned, touches hands to his lips)
